Sandwell Police Response to the Manchester Tragedy

Please find below message sent on behalf of Chief Superintendent Baker.

I am sure you have all seen the tragic events of Monday night in Manchester. Our thought and prayers go out to all those effected by the terrible events, it is truly heart breaking.

At this early stage of the investigation there is no link to Birmingham or Sandwell but we know that can change very quickly so as things develop we will endeavour to keep you informed. That said in this day and age of 24 hour news, BBC and SKY are often as accurate as we are. West Midlands Police website will have up to date information and Twitter is also another good source of accurate information if you follow @WMPolice or @gmpolice.

The purpose of this email is to reassure you that West Midlands Police are supporting Manchester as much as possible. There is no intelligence to suggest any attack in the Midlands area. We ask that you remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. You may see more police on patrol in crowded places and outside schools later, this is solely to provide extra reassurance and visibility to the public.

If you or members of your communities do receive any adverse comments relating to their race, religion or ethnicity please ask them to report this to West Midlands Police or direct them to one of the third party reporting centres based across Sandwell. It is critical that we identify any increase in tensions quickly so we can stamp it out immediately.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
